José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero

Born in Valladolid on August 4, 1960.

Married, two daughters.

Degree in Law by the University of Leon.

Member of the Spanish Socialists’ Party (PSOE) from 1979.

Secretary General of the Socialist Federation of Leon (1988-2000).

Secretary General of the PSOE and President of the Socialist Parliamentarian Group in the Chamber of Deputies (2000).

Elected as Deputy in the National Parliament of the Spanish Socialists’ Party for Leon in 1986, 1989, 1993, 1996 and 2000.

Deputy for Madrid, PSOE’s candidate for President of the Government in the general election of last 14^th of March 2004. He was re-elected to represent that same province in the election of last 9^th of March 2008. 

This is his second mandate as President of the Government since the 12th of April 2008

After the general election of last 9^th of March 2008, he took the oath of office as President of the Government before His Majesty the King last 12^th of April 2008. This will be his second mandate.

His first mandate started the 17^th of April 2004 after having taken the oath of office before His Majesty the King after the general election of the 14^th of March 2004.
